Animation

The goal of this project was to choose a famous story and create a short one to two-minute animation with After Effects that is able to convey the crux of the narrative. I developed a storyboard and determined how much of the story was necessary, and created all illustrations that would be used in the animation.

My initial sketches were focused on identifying what would be necessary to include from the narrative. Working through the process, I began to pinpoint core events of the story that would be recognizable without the need for detailed actions. The sketches provided are color coded to show each different animation for Alice and each new character needed.

Using After Effects and Illustrator I created multiple illustrations of each character. Alice had the most animation including running, sitting and drinking tea. It was important to make sure the designing of Alice’s legs and arms would be adjustable and responsive to the scene. Most of the other characters featured one or two separate illustrations per animation.

The final video features sound effects from Freesound.org and patterned backgrounds from Pixabay. I designed the trees, table and environment backgrounds as well as any other patterned material in Illustrator.
